Lehigh River Guided Trips
(Trout: Sept 15 - June 15)
(Bass: June 15 - Sept 15)
Referred to by many northeast flyfishers as 'The Next Great PA Trout Fishery', the Lehigh is quickly turning into a top fly fishing destination. Best fished from a float boat, this river is boulder strewn, fast and slippery. Though it receives some stocking, the water is oxygenated, insect life is abundant, and the numbers of wild fish are improving each year. Currently, our favorite place to guide. It's also a sneaky good summer bass fishery!

In many ways, the Lehigh is the ying to the Upper Delaware's yang. Being much further south, the Lehigh Valley begins to warm up weeks before the lower Catskills do, getting us a jump start on busting out of our winter cabin fever. We'll usually start seeing Black Stones, Black Caddis and BWOs on the Lehigh around the first week of March. In many years, we're even seeing good numbers of Hendricksons, Blue Quills and Quill Gordons by the last week of the month. In April and May, there's no better place to be than the Lehigh!
The counter to the season kicking off earlier, is that it tapers off by early June. Even though it's fed by a large reservoir and there are numerous cool water influences along the way, afternoon water temps are usually hitting 70* by early June. We can typically scratch out trout trips through the end of the month, but we'll usually do shorter days and start early. In summer, we stay closer to Allentown and target smallies.
Summers can be long and tough on Lehigh trout. The reservoir depletes its cold water during the summer, and it takes a while to get it back. We'll start booking fall trout trips after September 15, but the action really improves once we get into October and usually gets even better as we get closer to Halloween. Warmer valley temps keep us comfortably fishing into December most years.
